Christina Kubisch (*1948, Bremen) studied painting, music (flute and composition) and electronics in Hamburg, Graz, Zürich and Milano, where she graduated. After having worked as a flutist for contemporary music she started to perform her own pieces, often combined with video. Since the end of the seventies she focussed on sound installations, sound sculptures and work with light. Her compositions are mostly electroacoustic, but she has written for ensembles as well and has produced numerous audio works for radio.
Vibrations is the title of a series of works from the 1970s for classical instruments and vibrators. Already in the preceding performance series Emergency Solos Christina Kubisch with feminist irony had included items such as condoms, rubber sausages etc. in her flute pieces. In 1975 she created the first concepts for pieces with vibrators. From 1976 to 1980, under the title Vibrations, she developed both a series of musical works (a string quartet, pieces for cello) as well as sound objects, video performances and installations.
Many of these works have been rarely shown, some of them not at all yet. The exhibition presents sound objects, drawings, and photographs.
On the occasion of the exhibition a multiple consisting of an LP with two compositions / performances from the 70s, six photographic prints, and an original new drawing will be published in an edition of 15 numbered and signed copies plus 5 artist's proofs.
For the finissage of VIBRATIONS Christina Kubisch presents the first ever performance of BALLET from 1979, a piece for a mirror, 20 vibrators with tutu, contact-microphones, and tape player.

Christina Kubisch, geboren 1948 in Bremen. Studium der Malerei, Musik und Elektronik in Hamburg, Graz, Zürich und Mailand. Auf Performances und Videoarbeiten in den siebziger Jahren folgen seit Beginn der achtziger Jahre raumbezogene Klanginstallationen, Lichträume und Arbeiten im öffentlichen Raum. Zahlreiche elektro-akustischen Kompositionen und Radioproduktionen.
VIbrations ist der Titel einer Reihe von Arbeiten aus den 70er Jahren für klassische Instrumente und Vibratoren. Bereits in der vorausgehenden Performance-Serie Emergency Solos baute Christina Kubisch mit feministischer Ironie Gegenstände wie Präservative, Gummiwürste etc. in ihre Flötenstücke ein. 1975 entstanden erste Skizzen für Stücke mit Vibratoren. Von 1976 bis 1980 entstanden dann unter dem Titel Vibrations sowohl eine Serie musikalischer Arbeiten (ein Streichquartett, Stücke für Violoncello) als auch Klangobjekte, Videoperformances und Installationen.
Viele dieser Arbeiten wurden bisher selten, einige noch gar nicht ausgestellt. Die Ausstellung zeigt Klangobjekte, Zeichnungen, Fotos und eine Edition.
Anlässlich der Ausstellung erscheint eine Schallplattenedition mit zwei Kompositionen aus den 70er Jahren und einer Originalzeichung in einer Auflage von 15 nummerierten und signierten Exemplaren plus 5 artist's proofs.
